Samsung Galaxy S5 Android ROMs

2

There are TONS of Android ROMs out there. This comparison is looking at Galaxy S5 ROMs. It may even be impractical to extend this to all ROMs; though some of the ROMs in the comparison work on multiple devices (e.g. the CyanogenMod ROM).

Note that with high-end devices that have specific functionality, it's pointless to run an AOSP or AOKP ROM, because some of the features will always be broken. A debloated stock ROM is the way to go. See xda-developers.com/... for details.

Note that you can always install the Xposed framework and customize many aspects of your Android, without having to flash a ROM.

Glossary:

  • Knox - A flag set by Samsung against those who want to flash a custom kernel or custom recovery. If the flag is 0x1, the device warranty is void.
  • Aroma installer - xda-developers.com/...
  • Recovery - Use TWRP, xda-developers.com/... for Samsung Galaxy G900T
  • EFS partition Contains your IMEI and other radio data. Back it up with xda-developers.com/...

DescriptionT-Mobile G900-T specific. Comes with a lot of applications (not a de-bloated ROM), including "T-Mobile proprietary features" (xda-developers.com/... - unclear what exactly those are, besides Wi-Fi calling). Probably VoLTE.Two versions for the T-Mobile S5; unclear what the differences are, despite thousand-message threads. Seems focused on theming (17+ default themes), plus customizations for hardware button actions.Claims to be the most popular Samsung-based ROM worldwide - omegadroid.co/...De-bloated ROM, only ~500MB. Separate version for G900T - xda-developers.com/... - has VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling support - xda-developers.com/...

"The aim of this ROM is to keep it as close to the stock firmware as possible. Because this way the ROM is the most stable you can get, and also you don't have any mods that can have influence on the performance and/or battery life of the ROM. Also you can tweak the interface on your own nowadays with Xposed Framework plugins like: Wanam Xposed, GravityBox & Xposed G-TouchWiz."
